Art+Feminism is a campaign to improve the coverage of cis and transgender women, feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia.
One of the most common criticisms of Wikipedia is that its content is biased towards men, and it has fewer and less detailed articles on women and topics important to women. The Wikimedia Foundation itself acknowledges and agrees with these criticisms.
Art+Feminism is helping to address this problem by facilitating the organization of edit-a-thons around the world. At these events, participants create and improve Wikipedia articles relating to feminism and the arts.
This is the edit-a-thon event that HKLC has pledged to organize. Mentoring program participants will be making a valuable contribution to the Art+Feminism campaign. At the same time, they will deepen their understanding of Wikipedia, a valuable outcome for any information professional.
